چکیده

Plant derived volatiles are cues used widely that guide the behavior of plant associated insects, influencing both ability insects to locate host plants, as well tritrophic interactions with predators or parasitoids. Therefore, an understanding how impact a specific ecological system may aid development plants less attractive pests more amenable biocontrol. Because each plant-insect interaction is different, it important develop bioassays compare different volatile profiles and assess their comparative attractiveness insects. To this end, we developed laboratory-based pair-wise choice assay determine oviposition preference fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), global crop pest, maize, Zea mays L. (Poaceae) profiles. An alternative greenhouse-based also was effect Z. on Cotesia marginiventris (Cresson) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), parasitoid wasp can be biocontrol agent for S. frugiperda. These easily adaptable use range interactions.

Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Responses to Sorghum bicolor (Poales: Poaceae) Tissues From Lowered Lignin Lines

The presence of lignin within biomass impedes the production of liquid fuels. Plants with altered lignin content and composition are more amenable to lignocellulosic conversion to ethanol and other biofuels but may be more susceptible to insect damage where lignin is an important resistance factor. However, reduced lignin lines of switchgrasses still retained insect resistance in prior studies....

Sequential sampling protocols for Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), on Zea mays fields: influence of sampling unit size.

Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) is a major pest in maize fields in Argentina. However, a sampling method that accounts for spatial pattern and allows reliable pest density estimations is still lacking. This paper addresses the issue of how sampling unit size can influence the characterization of S. frugiperda spatial pattern and the performance of sampling plans. An intensive sampling progra...
